Deep Litter Bedding




A thick layer of bedding in the duck house keeps the ducks off cold floors and reduces the amout of heat loss transfered from the cold ground during chilly winters. Deep litter also produces heat as the litter and manure decompose. Using this system, cleaning out the house is done once or twice a year, and makes for excellent organic matter to add to the compost or garden.

Three steps to use:

Duck house walls will need to be about 4 foot high if this method is employed to allow for each layer of added bedding. After a year of adding and stiring the litter can be up to 30 inches deep.
